Prime Minister Olmert Blames Former Deputy Prime Minister OlmertPrime Minister Olmert today explained that his predecessors were at fault for failing to counter Hezbollah. Olmert said:
We knew for years that there was a great danger, but for some reason we didn't translate that understanding into action, like we just did. We knew what Iran was doing, what Syria was doing, in arming Hezbollah. We acted as if we didn't know.
Olmert might have a point, except that he was deputy prime minister in Ariel Sharon's government. Why didn't he, in his role as a senior cabinet minister and deputy prime minister, emphasize the danger emanating from Lebanon?
