The Tennenbaum Scandal

I've been opposed all along to the asinine deal with Hizbullah, but think Maariv's latest expose exaggerates the importance of Prime Minister Sharon's working relationship with the ex-father-in-law of Elhanan Tennenbaum, a relationship that apparently ended around 30 years ago. The notion that Sharon's brief acquaintance with Tennenbaum's ex-father-in-law is proof that there was a corrupt motive for the deal strikes me as unfounded, at best. But it didn't stop Maariv from publishing three columns calling for Sharon's resignation.

Furthermore, almost everyone is forgetting that the Israeli cabinet approved the prisoner exchange. While Sharon certainly pressured the cabinet members, ultimately they are as responsible as Sharon is for the deal.
